Parks Project

The project aimed to foster community pride and involvement in Logan Heights through an art project involving students from Logan Memorial Education Campus (LMEC). The project includes creating a webpage linked to the school's site, featuring information about the event, student perspectives on the community, and a gallery of chalk mural art.

Details

The initiative aligns with principles of participatory planning and echoes views on technology empowering marginalized groups. The working process involved overcoming challenges such as limited time, coordinating with teachers and students, and adapting plans based on community feedback.

Project

The project's objectives were not only artistic but also community-oriented. It sought to address issues of disconnection and lack of pride among students and families toward the school and the broader Logan Heights community. Through collaboration with teachers, particularly Ms. Dennis and Ms. Maklary, the project team identified the Dreamlab program as a key avenue for student involvement in extracurricular activities related to community service. The decision to focus on an art project, specifically a chalk mural, was driven by considerations such as ease of execution (no city permit required), student motivation, and potential impact on community pride.
