POLICY REPORT
This Policy Report is the culmination of an in-depth study conducted by students from UCSD’s Technology with Communities course in collaboration with the Logan Heights Community Development Corporation (LHCDC). Utilizing survey data from previous course sections and additional research, this report comprehensively examines key challenges affecting the Logan Heights community, including waste management, housing affordability, crime rates, traffic safety, street quality, and infrastructure accessibility.

Through a mixed-methods approach—incorporating resident surveys, interviews, and comparative analyses with other San Diego neighborhoods—this report identifies systemic disparities in resource allocation and proposes targeted policy recommendations. Issues such as deteriorating sidewalks, inconsistent waste management services, rising housing costs, and crime-related safety concerns are explored in depth. Additionally, findings highlight the impact of poor street conditions, high-traffic hazards, and pedestrian safety concerns along Imperial Avenue and other key corridors, which pose risks to residents and local businesses.

The findings highlight how these challenges contribute to broader socio-economic inequities and community perceptions of livability. The report serves as a resource for the LHCDC and Logan Heights residents, offering data-driven insights and policy solutions that can be leveraged in advocacy efforts for increased city funding and infrastructure improvements. By prioritizing community-driven planning and sustainable development, the recommendations aim to enhance the quality of life in Logan Heights while preserving its cultural and historical significance.
